Default Waiting on a tow truck

Was out beating on my car, nailed it off the light and instead of hitting second gear it bumped the rev limiter. Obviously something broke. No movement in any gear forward or reverse. Car seemed like it was running so good today too. Any ideas?
Just thought it could be the rear end too but didn't hear or feel anything break

They run the best just before they come apart.

Starts and runs fine. No change in rpm going into any gear. In park it does hold the car still so I don't think it's the rear end

Not sure which is most common, but 4 possibilities:
1. Trans pump failure - Check the fluid level with the engine off and then on. If it goes down by about 1" you pump is likely OK. If level stays the same, the pump is out.
2. Split input shaft - not that common.
3. Input shaft tore out of the input drum, good possibility.
4. Total failure of torque converter. And check that your converter bolts are still installed.

Good luck.

Had the same problem about a month ago. Ended up being a broken pump. $120 later I rebuilt the pump and now I just need to install the trans. Hind sight is 20/20, check and double check the converter to flexplate distance. lesson learned.
