Default Tranny shift delay in first gear

As the title says. The car will drive but it takes awhile to actually shift into 2nd gear. I put it in drive and it will wrap high rpm's before eventually shifting into 2nd and so on. Anyone else have this problem happen? Any helpful suggestions are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Is it a rough shift into 2nd? Does it do it every time or sporadically? Any other gears affected?

No, its not a hard shift into 2nd and yes it does it every time. No other gears seem to be affected. It's basically stuck in 1st gear and eventually gives me second and others when I finally get it going.

It sounds like the band is worn out.
Measure the servo pin end play by holding a small ruler next to the servo cover and depressing the cover with a crow bar.
The spec is around 1/16"- 1/8". When it reaches about 1/4" the band starts to slip and you loose first 2nd and then 4th (and sometimes the other way around).

I pulled the trans oil pan it looks like the tranny just went south. The oil looked dark almost like motor oil.
