Default Big 4L60E problems

Just had my trans rebuilt with some upgraded parts. Went and had a cam and heads installed. Trans didn't last a week after the cam and heads were installed. Not sure were to go from here. I paid $1200 to have this rebuilt. It was the 3-4 wide band that was burnt up. Could no longer get 4th gear. He said that my trans cooler line was pinched off. So I am not sure if that had any affect on the trans burning up. What could I have him install in the trans to make it hold better? I looked at making the move to the 4L80E, but theres a lot of extra parts involved.

A rebuild with upgrades for $1,200 does sound too good to be true...

By "the 3-4 band burned up", you mean the 2-4 band, right? The band applies in 2nd and 4th. It's a small detail but it makes sure people don't think you're referring to the 3-4 clutch pack, which is probably the most common 4l60e part that dies. And you're sure you've only lost 4th gear and it's not also skipping 2nd on the way to 3rd?

If only the band died, maybe a hydraulic leak somewhere with the servo apply? There are quite a few seals in the servo bore. Or the servo pin length was wrong.

A wide band requires a new Reverse Drum. Without that a small part of the band will run on un-worn part of the reverse drum. Doubt it would fail that quickly though. If the builder installed the trans, checking the cooling lines is his responsibility.
Check BBB for other complaints about this builder.

The way I'm reading this is.....You had the trans built, Then you had a cam installed...Had the radiator out & cooler lines disconnected. Now I don't have all the details, However if the cooler line got kinked during the cam install & blocked cooler flow....That can kill a trans in short order especially with a high stall converter.
