4l60e 2wd output shaft w/ or w/o sleeve
I'm building a 4l60e for a 2002 z28. I bought a 60e from a 2003 gmc. I need to swap from a 4wd to a 2wd, so do I need a shaft with a vent sleeve or no. I don't wanna have to take the tailshaft housing off the tranny in my car to find out, its my DD.

First, it is necessary to do a fair amount of disassembly to switch between 4WD and 2WD. The pump and input drum need to be removed; removing them is likely to tear the teflon sealing rings which are non-trivial to replace. If the trans has never been rebuilt, I would then strongly suggest replacing at least the 3/4 clutch. This quickly becomes a slippery slope to rebuilding the entire trans. If the trans was recently rebuilt it is likely to come apart and re-assemble easily.
Not sure how critical the "vent sleeve" is; I don't think I installed it on my current billet output shaft and don't have any leakage at the yoke.
In any case you can search for "4L60E Output Shaft Tube Yoke Yolk Sleeve Seal" and find them new on ebay for about $27.

Any vented yoke needs a sleeve on the output or it will leak. (unless you plug the vent).
