Default anyone street drive a reverse-manual TH350/TH400?

I heard do to the fact that 1st and 2nd gear have no engine braking that you shouldn't downshift the car until fully stopped. any truth to that? That downshifting and then reving it to catch the gear on the downshift wasn't good for the tranny.

Depends on who makes the transmission. You can get one with a 2nd gear band that will allow you to downshift. That will prevent the freewheeling to catch up to the gear.

I have driven alot of cars with this setup and I don't downshift usually until I get to a stop or am moving slowly (10mph) or less

Derty,
Is it better to have this 2nd gear band installed? I don't want to mess up my tranny from the occasional street driving it'll see

I have driven cars with and without them. I believe Carl Rossler is the only one that bands the 2nd gear like that. FWIW, I don't think you really need it. I believe it makes the downshift a little more harsh with a larger stall converter.

so what about if you get stuck in stop and go traffic where you may need to shift between 1st and 2nd? just leave it in second?

Just depends, but you should be able to shift it fine. I was caught in a rather lengthy traffic jam here in Detroit last year and the transmission did fine shifting up and down. At higher speeds, around 70, down shifting can become more of an artform!
