408ci with 4L60E
I have a built 4L60 with a few goodies(band, servo, shift kit, clutches, sun gear, and some small stuff) built locally.
The builder has done a lot of local 4l60s that I have personally seen hold 600+RWTQ with only upgrading 3 things>> the 2-4 band, servo(s), and shift kit. We are talking mid to high 10 second passes for over a year, no problems, with hard street use and going to the track 2-3 times a month!
However, I am installing a 408 with Stg 3 Heads and a moderate cam. I am guessing it will be high 400RWHP through the A4. I also might spray it later...
My dilemma is...should I:
1. Keep the 4L60 for now
2. TH400, with plans to do GV OD unit down the road
3. 4L80 (I think too $$$$$ for me)
btw my rear is stock but with Auburn posi and 3.23's
This is daily driven, with maybe 1-2 trips to the track per month, maybe less.
I could sell the 4L60 right now with converter for a good chunk of change, as it is in good shape.

The TH400 is the way to go, but it's not that street friendly. I'd try to stick with a 4L60e if you can. FLPs are holding up nicely. Rossler also makes a bad *** A4, but for a nasty price. TH400 is a "racecar" trans IMHO. Some of us own racecars, and some don't. It's up to you.
It depends on the what you want out of the car. If you're a cruiser, just stay with the A4, try to limit downshifts, and you'll be fine for a while. However, if you rip the car around and drag a bit. Don't waste your money on an A4 and get a cheaper TH400 that will handle anything and everything you can throw at it.

hey
Seems to me you've already answered your question! You stated your builder builds one with a few mods, to hold over 600 rwtq.... you also stated you already have them mods....ergo your tranny is capable of holding 600rwtq...right??? Wheres the dilemma? Go with the 4L60E...it's been running for a year....and you'll not be around 600 rwtq till you start spraying...right?? I hope this helps....Dave
