New trans installed, now have a ?
My stock trans finaly took a dump. So sat. I finshed installing a Rossler 4L60E. Trans is great, but only one question. When I put my converter in with my factory trans when driving around town around 35-40mph with the car in OD It would have some jerking to it. I could drop it in drive & it would go away. As long as I was doing over 45mph in OD It was fine. Now that I have my new trans in, it still does the same thing. Is this a tuning issue? I think it started after my cam install. Anybody have and ideas on what it is, or how to fix it? Mods are in my sig.
Thanks,
Vann

Mine did the samething, trany would lockup around 40-45 and start to jerk. I just pushed the lock up at a higher mph/ rpm and it worked fine. I think the problem is timing, and I know a few people who increased their timing around the 1500-2000 range and smoothed the jerking right out. Also make 100% sure that the converter is not locking and unlocking. Let me know how it turns out. Chris

Tuning.
Jerking is likely due to a mixture issue at that speed. With the cam, the engine may be running a bit lean at cruise at those speeds. Does it jerk regardless of the amount of throttle being applied?
The fixes mentioned in the above posts may mask the symptoms, but may also lead to higher operating temps in the transmission due to the additional slippage. If you can get the motor tuned, it might be a better alternative.

What i believe is happening is when the converter locks up it no longer has the 3500rpm cushion and it also drops the rpms down to 1200 rpm give or take depending on gears, tire heights etc. Well at 1200 rpm and the converter locked up you now can fell the surging of the camshaft. You ought to be able to fix it with tuning the converter lock up like said above. Just dont let the converter lock up as soon so that when it locks up the rpm will be high enough to not allow the surging of the camshaft.
