Default Pump questions?

what would be typical symptoms of the pump going out of a TH350?

My tranny is very slow on part throttle shifts, and wont downshift on its own. (no its not a manual valve body).

any insight would be great. Thanks

Low pressure, take a pressure reading.
Dropping out of gear.
Pause before it moves in selected gear, especially reverse.

Exactly what he said.If it won't downshift on it's own remove the governor(inside the tin cap on the driver's side of the trans) to be sure the valve inside is free.If it isn't drop the pan and check for metal. If you see some you have some internal transmission problems causing it to stick.

The downshift cable (on a TH350) when setup correctly, should give you downshifts at 2/3 - 3/4 throttle.

there is no kickdown cable on mine. The downshift im referrering to is when i slow to a stop, i could leave it in 3rd and it would drive like a normal auto. Now it just stays in 3rd.

If you now take off in 3rd & it used to take off in 1st, then you most likely have a stuck governor and or sticky shift valves. This can happen when metal starts to get into the valve body and or governor.
