Default Blown converter?

Well, after driving and all of a sudden not being able to have forward and reverse I dropped my tranny to find out what happened. Dropped it and and took the converter off and com to find something interesting. I tore all the splines in the converter the ride on the input shaft. But the input shaft looks perfectly fine. Also found the the stator collar on the pump is also tore to hell. My question is has this ever happened to anyone? Also there were no metal shaving or debris of any kind in the tranny pan or filter. Would it be safe to have it flushed, cooler lines flushed, put a new pump in and converter and be all right?
