Does the TC needed to be filled before install?
Hi All,
I installed my auto trans and I forgot to fill up the TC. Does the TC need to be filled up before installation? Can I just fill up the tranny fluid and shift thru all the gears for the fluid to get sucked into the TC? Would I risk doing harm to the TC for not filling it up? Thanks for any advice.

well if you want to take a little time you could fill it through the cooling line the fluid comes out of the converter to the cooler you woulod have to have a way to pump it in there though

I used to build trannies 30 years ago - not done any since, however. Back then you could get away with not filling the converter first.
If you put plenty of fluid in before cranking the motor the front pump should fill the converter very quickly.
If you have access to a lift and it was my car I would pull it, however.

havent you guys seen this discussion on JEsse James Monster garage in Iraq. Jesse blatently told one of the mechanics to fill up the TC before putting it in and the guy didnt because he had never done it before when he did the installs. When they fired it up it worked for a few seconds and the internal gears on the TC burned up. The TC takes a decent amount of fluid in it and your supposed to let it sit so the bubbles come out.

Just curious if they do this from the factoy as well. What if you crank the motor over with out starting it, will the TC fill with fluid? I don't see why the front pump would be hosed and it would only take a second for the pump to fill the TC I would think but I am really guessing here. What gears are in the TC that would get ruined? Would like to know why it would cause issues instead of hearing you just have to do it or it's a good idea with no real explanation, just trying to get educated on the matter is all and understand it should be done .
