Default Line pressure????

How can you tell if the line pressure in the tranny is set too hard? I have a "problem" as you may call it, where it makes a noise when I put it in drive, and the car jolts. Is this normal? What are the cons of too much pressure in the line, and how do I fix that? Sorry if "line pressure" is not the correct term, I've heard some people say that it could be that. The tranny shifts fine and everything, newly rebuilt with about 6k miles on it. It doesn't seem to do it NEARLY as much if I don't hold down the brake all the way. It doesn't do it if I put it in reverse/drive and start rolling right away, but it does it when I have the brake all the way in.

Ideas?

My idle should be set to stock. I do however have a TNT F1 wet plate installed, so it idles just a little higher due to the linkage spacers.
