other automatic trans options?
ive heard all the talk about the th350 or 400 swaps and that the 4l60 is not a performance trans and that the 4l80 is so much better than it but can anyone fill me in on the th700r4 and 200 that come out of the 3rd gen cars and grand nationals from the 80's.
can these two trans bolt up to an ls1? i know that the grand national trans can be built really strong but how well does the 700r4 hold up and can they be built up to handle a HC ls1?

A 700R4 is a non electric 4L60E. The valve body is different, the case is a little different. But the whole gear train...the stuff that needs to be made stronger is all the same as a 4L60E. In other words if you can put it in a 700 it will go into a 4L60E so you might as well use the 4L60E unless you don't want the electric crap to deal with.

It's in the new vetts and probably trucks and SUV's i'd assume. There are quite a few upgrades, but I can't recall exactly what they are. I read about the diffrences here, so do a little searching and it should come up.

The 86-57 GN's have the better trannys. I had mine built with billet input/output shafts as well as a billet forward drum, 10 vein pump and Stageright trans-brake. My car has laid down right at 715-RWTQ and was still running strong before I parked it for the new motor. The 200R4 has put up with a good bit of abuse from the torque output and weight of both the car and my big *** in it. Hope this helps.

PS-I will be going with TCI's SSF 4L60E for my T/A soon after talking with Kevin Winstead.
