Tranny suggestions for my turbo'ed GTO...
Hello. I have an 04 GTO with a 6spd. I have done a bunch of research but am still unsure of what I should do, so let me know what you think.
I want to go to an auto over the winter. I really don't think the 6spd will hold up at this power level, plus I want the better ETs from an auto.
Anyways, I know I could go TH400 and it will hold whatever I throw at it. I don't really want to lose my overdrive though because I like driving this car back and forth to my cottage in the warmer months, and I put probably 8k miles on it every summer.
Therefore most likely I will have to go for a 4L80e or 4L60/5e. I'd rather stick with a 60/5 over the 80 because of price and weight. Right now I'm making not quite 600rwhp and running 11s. I have nitrous on the car but have yet to spray it, but you can figure upwards of 800rwhp when all is said and done.
What I want to know is, does anyone have a built 4L60e that is handling this kind of abuse. I know companies like FLT, Rossler and RPM have built 60s. I don't care about a transbrake. I want to just run a 3500ish stall and foot brake it. I've heard from the Vette guys that the RPM trannys are working great, but seeing as how my GTO is about 3900lbs, I don't know how I would fair. I hit the strip about 2-3 times a month just for fun, the rest is street driving.
Thanks, let me know what's holding up!

Vince is correct it is pushing the envalope on the 4l60e , However we can and do warranty our invincible series 4l60e in that application , And the only things we consider abuse when it come to warranty is low fluild , improper installation , We do not use the you beat the crap out of it excuse because that exactly what these are sold for thats this market and that why you buy transmissions from us so you can beat the crap out of them
