Default Output shaft play...

Hey transmission gurus...

I had pulled my driveshaft today so that I could inspect my diff (posi is crap), and noticed that the output shaft in my 79,000 mile A4 had an awful lot of play with the DS out.

I can move it 1/4 to a 1/2 an inch in any direction. Is that normal, or should I go ahead and be saving for a built tranny?

I know that with the driveshaft in, it doesn't have any play, so I figure that the yoke from the DS rides on the bushing and keeps everything tight.

I was just wondering guys, any response would be appreciated.

well 1/2 inch would seem like alot of play more than I would think , I know we use shims with the output bearing to bring that tighter , though at 75000 miles and kicked around much it might be time to start thinking about it
