Default 4L80E on 6.0l problem

I am trying to fit an 4L80E from an '05 Savanna van (VIN 1GTGG25V851219946) onto a 6.0l LQ9 from an '04 Silverado SS (VIN 2GCEK19N641318235) and am encountering 2 problems:
~I cannot bring the trans case right against the engine block, there is an 1/8" space left; the converter is against the flexplate. Should the converter (stock from the Savanna van) go further into the trans, I do not seem to be able to push it any further? It is a flexplate issue?
~The holes in the flexplate do not line up with the "holes" in the converter, which is not necessarily a surprise.
How do I solve these 2 issues? Can they be solved together with 1 solution (i.e. different flexplate...)?
~ Also, how do I know that there is enough fluid in the converter before I install it?

Thanks for your help, guys!

I assume you were turning the verter when pushing it into the trans. If not you probably have not engaged the pump (it's not on all the way).

You may very well need a different flexplate, which one I have no idea.

Just pour about 1 qt of fluid in the converter.

I have turned the converter while pushing it indeed, it is not supposed to be hard, is it? I have felt a couple of "steps" while inserting, so I figure it is all the way... Is there a trick?

nope, sounds like you've got it.
What type of motor was in the van? You may need a converter w/ a different front cover. I know the f-body's require a special converter w/ a LS1 front cover when putting an 80 in.

A guy on PerformanceTrucks forum told me that I need a 4L80E flexplate, since the LQ9 has a 4L60E-type flexplate, I think I will try that, hoping I can keep the converter!

You have to change to a 4l80 flywheel and there is a spacer that goes between the flywheel and the crank. The truck would have had a 4l60 e from the factory so that is where you are running into problems. Get all of the parts off of the van if you have access to it. There are also a couple of pins in the trans connector you have to move and yo also have to run the turbine speed sensor wires up to the pcm. Then you have to move the same wires at the pcm that you changed on the connector and reflash the pcm so it will shift. It will not even try to shift without the iss sensor and the 4l60 tune in the pcm.
