Default Strange sound at 5,500 rpm on '97 LT1 - *Help*

Car - ’97 LT1(stock), A4(4L60E) with lower mileage.

I was out driving my car and decided to WOT on straight stretch or road. I was in OD at the time and got up to about 5,500 rpms. As I was approaching the higher rpm’s I keep waiting for the car to shift… but it didn’t seem like it did. I was just about to let off once I hit 5,500 rpms because I didn’t want to F anything up. I started from a 40 mph roll, so I couldn’t have been doing more then 80 mph when I hit the high rpm. Ive only had the car for about 4 months so I havnt pushed it very hard yet. Anyway, just before I was about to let off my engine made a “PIST” sound. That’s about the best way I can describe it. It seemed like the engine may have cut off for a split second. The car is fine and didn’t make any other sounds. I just want to know why my engine sounded like it cut out. Or was it the transmission that may have caused it?

Any suggestions?
