Default Is something wrong here...

When I changed my trans fluid last wkend only about a gallon of fluid came out. Is this normal... I just wanted to check because If I have to i will change it again to make sure all the fluid has been changed. My dad bought me three gallons for christmas last year so i have plenty. Also, the magnet at the bottom of the pan was capped up with metal particals, although, i'm guessing this is normal because of usual wear, and occasional burnouts... I've been checking the fluid level after the change and it's been full every time.

yeah, that sounds normal. The majority of the fluid is in the torque converter, valve body and tranny cooler. I dont know of a way to get fluid out other than dropping the pan, next time I have to take that thing off im going to get a aftermarket pan with a drain plug of just put one on the stocker. dropping the pan is a PIA!

yes that is about normal.pretty much depends on how long you let it sit without the pan and filter off but normally you wont see more then 4 to 5 quarts drain out. the rest is trapped inside the transmission.

To change the remaining 8 quarts (trapped in torque converter and cooler):
