Default how to paint transmission

OK....going to rebuild and install an 4l80E in place of a 4l60E. Would like to paint the trans. Any specifc way this should be done? Plan on taking a wire wheel and getting all of the debris off then steam cleaning. do you usually paint after rebuild as all one piece or paint while it's disassembled....

Paint while disassembled. If possible heat to aboiut 150 degrees f. Paint will stay better and not break up over time. make sure oil and water free and use engine enamel or and oil based paint, Try not to get it in areas exposed to fluild. This is how we do it and it seems to work very well.
