FUBAR'd my 95 Silverado 4l60e 4l80 upgrade and 4l60e ??questions???
The trans in my DD truck took a chit yesterday 95 silverado 4l60e. I planned on going through the motor trans next spring but that plan went out the window >
I was pulling my trailer up a hill wiht our new HVAC system when it just freewheeled...no engagement in any gear..not even reverse. As if the trans isn't even in the car. It doesn't even surge or lunge when put in a gear as if there is no internal pressure or pump failure.
1. I would like to upgrade to a 4l80e. Can I put one in without any ECU or other mods?
2. If the 4l80e swap isn't straightforward then i'll rebuild the 4l60e. As far as rebuilding the existing 4l60e... I've built several TH400's and the sticky at the top for the 4l60e will help greatly as long as something else is arise (converter, hardpart, or electronic failure). The fluid is purple toast.
Any ideas? a straight rebuild isn't a problem but I wonder if something electronically or mechanically (hard part) is Fubar?
Thoughts?
Thanks for any opinions..

As he was saying could be a pump failure but there are other posibilites too, I have seen splines stripped out on the converter. And in the case of trucks even wrong filter install (shallow pan filter) dropping out and causing loss of all gears. On the 4L80E swap it is a pretty complicated swap and expensive. So based on what you have written probably not and option, If you decided you just want a trans give us a call and if you decide to build your own and need tech support we have that to,

A friend has a rebuilt 4l60e out of a cadillac that he will sell me cheap. I have a few questions
Any differences? VB or electrical component
will the solenoids work with my ecu?
Also this trans did not have the solenoids replaced. I want to replace them ..do the above trans shop sell the Noids or other rebuild components ..the websites appear to be complete trans only.
Thanks
