tranny problems help!!

tranny problems help!! Wife heard a clank noise and tranny started messing up, won't shift into 2nd without lowering speed, then won't shift into third unless you lower speed again. Checked tranny fluid, I don't see any real level on the dipstick. Would adding tranny fluid solve it or is it too late?

fluid level is fine. I took to AAMCO to get it diagnosed and they said it's probably the planet plate or bearing or something. I'm gonna just get a whole new trans on ebay. are there any auto trans swap writeups anywhere?
