Still no shift!!!
ok i posted a thread before saying that the trans would not leave second gear, but i stand corrected it is not leaving 1st. i can drive the car to about 40 mph then its hitting the limiter. this is the 3rd trans that has done this. After i put a trans in it will ride fine shift through all gears then it will slip out of gear and then never shift again so im hoping that it is the computer! has anyone seen or herd of this before??? please help

Ok I have seen your previous post, This has been going on a while. We first I do beleave you have and electronics problem , However if you have been driving the car around in limp mode much you likley now also have a trans problem , Once the 3-4 clucth fails from driving around and no longer holds you will be stuck in first gear with limp mode present But you need to 1- have the car scanned for codes.2- If there are none present and limp mode still exsist do some electrical diagnostics which I will be happy to guide you through. First though I would pull the pan and see whats in it if its burnt or there clutch material in it then getting a trans would be in order, Once thats done work to solve the issue and dont drive the car around untill it is found. and you can alternatly work on finding the problem while waiting on the transmission , your description in each thread sounds like limp mode resulting in a trans failure. Not a trans failure resulting in limp mode.

i too also think it is in limp mode because when i would restart the car up even in cold weather both fans will come on and thats something that they rarely did even in the summer, but isnt there a way i can chck the codes without a scanner? if so then this will save me a lotta time

For GM domestic vehicles made before 1995, the diagnostic connector is located under the dash panel by the driver side. To get the check engine codes to flash in your dash panel, use a jumper wire or a paper clip and connect terminals A and B of the diagnostic connector. Turn your ignition key on with engine off and the codes should start to blink. All codes should start with code 12 which is one long flash followed by 2 short flashes. This code 12 means the diagnostic system is normal and will repeat itself continuously if there are no trouble codes. Otherwise, code 12 will flash 3 times before flashing the fault codes. The flashes of the codes will work like this, three long flashes followed by 3 short flashes is a code 33 for instance. You can use a paper clip with no paint on it to jump the terminals.
