700-R4 attached to LS1. Convertor Question
Hey Everyone.
I know i can run a 700-R4 on an LS1 if i space the 700-r4 convertor out, and make up a TV pin.
However, what if i used an LS1 Convertor instead of a 700-r4? Would i need to space it?
My tranny is an '89, so it should be a 30spline, so the LS convertors will go over the input shaft. Just depends if the size will help
Thanks!

The converter for an LS engine is different in several ways to a LT engine or... a 700r4 or early 4L60E.
The most important thing you need to know about it is that you'll need a differnet flexplate... just went through this on a '91 Vette LS1 conversion last week. We had to use the original tailhousing because of the torque arm. That meant we needed an early case. That meant an LT type 4L60E.

Need to use the 700R4 style converter, like previously mentioned. It will be just under 6" in height from the top of the hub to where it mounts to the flywheel. The LS1 converter is about 6.5" tall. The pilot, the part of the converter that goes into the engine crank, needs to be extended about 1/4" to engage in the LS1 crank. There are adapters for this. The bolt pattern is also different, so the flywheel needs to be changed.

what flywheel needs to be used for this swap and how have you all been spacing the the torque converter(washers?) and lastly where do you get the adapter for the flywheels/converter hub? Thanks
