I can't remember if this was the same code I had a problem with, but I would end up loosing first and forth when the MIL came up. I replaced both shift solenoids and I even tried to have the slip code deleted without much improvement (I'm not sure I had the correct one deleted though.) The only way I can keep the problem from coming back is keeping the shifter in "D" until I get on the freeway and stay at freeway speed. I would have the problem if I drove around town in "OD" and the PCM would freak-out when the converter would unlock and it would think the tranny was slipping or something.

If you replace the solenoid, may as well replace both IMO. I replaced the B not long ago but then after that the A went. It was an intermittent fault though which tricked me. When we tested the solenoid it was o.k. but when driving it blipped the limiter. 2 solenoids is cheaper and easier than 2 tranny services

1rst gear-A sol
2nd gear-B sol
3rd gear-no sol
4th gear-A&B sol
These are the solenoids that are operating as you shift. In my opinion, it would be a good idea to change A&B solenoids at same time, but not necessary. Get the GM solenoids. They are very inexpensive. Have the codes erased with a scanner, don't disconnect the battery. Technically, you should have this professionally diagnosed, but I've seen this so much you can take the chance to change the solenoids. Hope this helps.

1st= both on
2nd= A off and B on
3rd= both off
4th =A on and B off
