TH400 & GVOD Install Tips...
Guys,
I started the installation of the TH400 and Gear Vendor Overdrive this weekend. Things went pretty smoothly overall, but here are a few things to note:
1) When installing the torque converter make sure that it is ‘seated’ all the way on the input shaft. It sucks to put the trans up and realize that the converter isn’t all the way in.
2) If you are installing the Gear Vendor unit and have the Spohn TA with the front driveshaft loop then you will need to hack it off. The GV unit extends the trans too much and the DS loop gets in the way. Took about a minute to cut it off with the air cutter.
3) The driveshaft looks like it is going to be pretty short. There are good directions for measuring for driveshaft lengths at www.dennysdriveshaft.com. I bought my Nitrous-Ready Shaft from them about a year ago and they will shorten it for free
4) For those that don’t know this, you can 'unload' the TA by jacking the car up from the driver’s side mounting point of the Panhard Rod. This will allow you to unbolt the TA mounting cross-brace.
Other then that the install was pretty straight-forward. The transmission is now in the car and all that I am waiting for is the cross-member from BMR. The GVOD looks like a pretty stout piece and it only took about 3 days for them to get it to me from the time that I ordered it
Now all that I have to do is drop the other turbo manifold, box them up...and wait for the new, bigger twins to arrive I also need to ship my current DS to Denny's so that they can do the shortening I discussed above.
I will be snapping some pictures later this week of the setup installed.
