LS1 + 700r4?
I've got a low-mile LS1 + T56 from a '99 Z28 that was originally slated for my '64 Chevy shortbed. That project is on a back burner now and it's my '72 C10 that's getting my attention. I want an automatic in this truck but hate to see that LS1 just sitting there doing nothing. I've got a 700R4 already. Is there any reason not to use this tranny instead of a 4L60E? I don't have anything against the 4L60E, obviously -- just have this 700R4 already.
If I were to go with a 4L60E, I assume I'd need a different computer, right? I've got the one from the '99 Z28, but obviously that's for a manual tranny. I have LS1Edit (bought it a year ago but have never used it) -- could I use the same computer and just upload a tune from a manual? I don't know how this computer-controlled stuff works.
And if I go with the 700R4, what sorts of compute-related issues will I be facing? I'm looking for simple and reliable. Maybe I'm ....
Thanks for any help. If this has been covered previously, I apologize. Tried several searches and nothing turned up.
Thanks again,
Brent

You would bolt it up just like a th350/400 conversion.
You'll need a TV cable mount and the correct geometry for the pull.
Seems you could make a tune to lock the converter with the original tcc apply wire and delete the codes for the missing parts that aren't in the 700. Or wire a 4th gear pressure switch to lock it automatically in 4th.

Good deal. Thanks for the info!
Might be moot -- just turned up a couple rebuilt 4L60E's for VERY cheap, as in too cheap to pass up and too cheap not to buy both (different sellers).
