Default Ticking/Grinding coming from car when in gear

Hey guys I have 97*** on my 99 TA. The tranny is built but with a stock stall. Recently, when stopping at lights I get a loud grinding/ticking sound. If I put the car into neutral it goes away. Any ideas as to what this might be? Its driving me crazy

Sounds like a broken flexplate or a loose converter bolt. Vince

Thanks Vince. Would there be any other symptoms to narrow it down? The car does feel slower and takes longer to rev which makes me think it might be something to do with the converter. The car has also always idled at 500 which is odd too.

The idle is probably a tuning issue. To narrow down the noise you are going to have to start looking in that area. Taking the starter out might help you see in there a little better. As for the converter it would need to be pulled and then cut open. Vince
