Default Misfires killing trans

Can a prolonged misfire cause the transmission to loose the 2-3 shift? I had the plugs replaced while I had a converter put in almost 2 years ago.The trans lasted about a year after that, the whole time I had a misfire code and heard that a lightweight converter would do that so I didn't think much of it.I lost the 2-3 shift and had it overhauled and put the stock converter in.Now 18 months later I have the same problem. While chasing down a loud tick that I thought would be a broken rocker I found a a sparkplug so loose that I was able to take it out by hand.

So what do you guys think?

Its not likely the misfire in and of it self killed the trans though failure to lockup the converter due to the misfire would tend to cause the trans to overheat alot which can decrease the trans life
