Default 4l80e

I have a 1998 chev pickup 2500 4x4 6.5l diesel. 250,000 miles.
I was pulling a friend out of a ditch in reverse and I lost reverse while pulling.
The trany was very hot, some fluid leaked out.
It seems to go into reverse but all that happens is I can hear something rubbing metal to metal.
Can this be a simple fix by droping the pan or is it going to be a complet rebuild.

Thanks

You might have broke the low/reverse sprag, witch is a complete tear down
