**some LS6 starter/advice help please**
Hi guys,
So it's that time, I need to replace the starter. Seems like the same thing with most of the v's part, rediculous pricing, and often backorder. My mechanic said that the starter motor itself is right about @$300. But im looking around online and alot of info. has me thinking that LS1 starters will work with my LS6. Is this true? any info or advice helps...
thanks in advance,
Morgan

There are two basic starters for the Gen3/4 motors. GM differentiates them by displacement: there's one for less than 5.7L motors and one for 5.7L + motors. Corvette, Camaro and truck starters for the larger motors listed above will be fine.
The 4.8-5.3 starter does not like high compression or large displacement. Make sure that you don't get one of these.
Also, the newer starters use two long bolts instead of a long/short bolt configuration. It's a much stronger nose assembly.
Careful searching will find one for less than $100 new on the internet. I'd give you the name of a good supplier, but they're not a sponsor here.

get a starter for any ls1 car camaro firebird corvette etc. change the one bolt to a short bolt, and solder a regular ring connector on to replace the worthless weatherpack and your done and have saved $150. I did this about 10,000 miles ago no problems since.
