Default Advice for a new guy

I am thinking that I want a 2004-06 CTS-V
I am going to look at a 04 with 80K on it, so what do I need to look for?
I have been reading about the rear ends, so I guess I need to listen for that.
What is a good price?
I know that dealers are paying $2-3000 below book, and they are not selling on Ebay right now, or the prices are too high...
Appreciate all input, Thanks

2-3 behind book is about right....From what I've seen the northern V's are goin about 2-3k more than ones in southern states. I gave 16,300 for my 04 Silver/black with 61k on it 6 mos ago. Good Luck, and I've noticed the ones on Ebay sitting and re-running too.

OK I wnet and drove it.
first time in a V, but I have driven a few GTO's and late Camaros.
My impressions of this car were not the best, looked really nice except bad paint work on both ends,
Brakes felt good in a hard stop, but regular slowing it had some grinding noises.
No idea if the car had been modded, but I hated the shifter, had a lot of troble finding 5th
all the gears seemed ok, but engagement was not smooth.
Of course there was the diff cradle clunk under load adn shifting.
It had a bad shake around 55 mph that never went away, even at 90+, more than likly it was tires.

they dealer wanted $18K and I offered $8500 considering all the work it needed.
Of course they turned down my offer

I need to drive a few more to see if this was just a lemon.

don't know what deal with the paint was, that screams accident to me, did you see a carfax? Shouldn't be shaking though. Shifter sucks, was the the first thing I changed (I'm using the katech shifter). Might have aftermarket pads, I have HPS' up front and they like to squeal a bit.
