I'd say you're lucky it was just the tailshaft seal and not the rear main. I did the tailshaft seal on a 4l60e under a blazer a couple years ago and it was pretty painless.

Oh yeah! rear main would be whole new clutch going in all that jazz... Gonna keep her pretty tame and new project car will be a procharged C6...
