Default Those who have cut springs..

For those of you who have cut your coil springs, whats the trick in getting the front springs to seat in the upper perch properly? I cut mine this week (1 coil off front, and 1.25 coils off the rear) and am having trouble with the drivers side seating into the rubber perch. I have already installed and taken them off once to try and bend the top of the spring inward using an acetylene torch and hammer to do so. It helped some and the passenger side spring is not making any noise, but the drivers side I can tell it is hitting the strut mount module at the top because I can hear metal to metal contact. Does anyone have any suggestions other than buying a whole new set of lowering springs?

BTW, Big thanks to Mighty mouse for the rear spacer kit. Things work great and were a breeze to install!!

I'm very happy with the way my car sits now, just this damn noise from the front bugging me.

No way to avoid that sharp edge in the front on cut springs. Mine was the same way on my old car. But I had the exact same amount cut off both front and rear. Rear sat perfect. Front was a tad high but I never messed with it. If u pull em out again, I'd cut another 1/8" or so off the front. Just my opinion judging off the stance mine had.

The stance is not the issue, I like the way it sits now. Its how the top of the spring is not bent inward and flattened like it was before I cut it. I don't think cutting more off will help it to set in the rubber mount any better.

I was thinking of maybe coating the top of the spring with some sort of rubber coating or finding an isolator of some sort to go over the end of the last coil.

It's tough to get cut springs to sit tight... Maybe get a thicker piece of rubber and notch it to fit the spring

Oh I know it won't help your issue. I was just speaking from a stance point of view.

I think your idea of finding a little rubber cap to slide over the cut end is a good idea. Mine never sat 100% perfect in the isolator but they were close. The cut tip of the coil cut into the rubber isolator after awhile and did the same squeaky **** yours is doing. Try the rubber cap thing. That'll take that sharp edge away and prob help it sit in the isolator a little better.

Searched around on the net. I think I'm gonna try these:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000CNB54K/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&smid=A2RF7IAU8285XR http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000CNB54K/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&smid=A2RF7IAU8285XR
5 13/16" outer diameter should be wide enough to capture all of the top of my spring, just hope it fits in the strut mount module.

I always grind the sharp cut off the end of cut springs.....Never looks quite as good as factory did but WAY better than just lopping off the coil. Just used a bench grinder and made the flat cut end into about 45* slant.

I considered that as an option but i guess in order to do that, you'd want to cut them a hair longer than where u really want them because the grinding to make it flat on that top edge would take some more spring off too.

Yeah but it may take off like 1/8" off the total spring height on the end of the grind. I had some on a Cobra that cut through the rubber bushing and began squeaking so I tried the grind method and when re-installed there was NO noticeable difference in ride height. That being said leaving them a little longer would give you some material to play with.

Any issues with them cutting the isolators after grinding? I'm tempted to cut my springs again on this car if not so i can get the height/stance right where i want it.

The grinding is a great idea, I will do that too when I try the new isolators.

The stance looks great man... Sounds like to much trouble to just save a few hundred dollars but that's just imo... Hope you get all the bugs worked out with the spring

I have a set posted in the classifieds...

They are black chrome. Homestly look more chrome to me than black which is why I'm selling them. I'm going with gloss or satin black powdercoated wheels instead. Check them out. If your stock wheels are rash free, may take em as partial trade. I just need a perfect set to Powdercoat. These wheels would look sexy on that color though!

They are closer to chrome than black. But yeah bud, just lmk. I may still be interested if the rash isn't too bad.
