Antoher shifter thread!!!! CTS-V vs CTS Pivot Ball Holder
I wanted to see what the difference with the regular CTS vs CTS-V shifter was so I purchased a regular CTS shifter assembly. This is what I found.
When I got it it was almost the same.
Similarities:
- **** attachment
- stalk
- shifter length
Differences:
- Pivot ball holder
- lower bushing holder
- metal cup holder
What surprised me was (what I thought was) a better pivot ball holder design in the regular CTS.
Remember ours comes with the metal cup and the two plastic halves that are kept together with the metal cup:

Now comes the better design in my opinion. The regular CTS comes with two pieces of plastic, two "C" locks, aluminum sleeve, and then the metal cup. The two plastic pieces goe together and are held by a "C" clip on eac side then the aluminum sleeve, then gets put in the metal cup. The metal cup built bigger but the aluminum sleeve fit right into the CTS-V cup.
I put this in my set up and it feels a lot better. It feels tighter at the pivot.
I just wanted to let ya'll know this this may help.

I bought a brand new CTS assembly off eBay and it is a lot tighter than the stock shifter or the Katech shifter that I installed. The pivot seems much tighter and precise. I didn't take it apart to find out why though. I made it a short throw and cut the top shorter as well. It will be a while before dad gets the car back together but can't wait to feel it now.

Has anyone tried the Camaro shifter in our cars? The trans linkage is almost an exact match, and the shifter looks to be VERY close as well, although it is installed from under the car. Don't you have a Hurst shifter in your car?

I tried it a while back and it is sort of plug and play. The bottom portion is the only thing different. You just had to add some washers to it. I bought it for one reason: the matal pivot point. It is an all metal construction so you get a lot of noise with it and I thought I could bear it even with the Hurst "remedy" they give. It was still noisy. It is a high pitched sound and also has a whining noise to it.
I now use a lower stock modified portion with a Hurst top stalk part. I just made one for a member but I always forget to take pics.
It was stiffer but the noise was too much for me. Do a google search on Camaro Hurst shifter noise...
Someone used the Camaro Hurst shifter and did a write up on it.

Havent had a whole lot of extra time lately, but I wanted to recommend azn2dmax's shifter work. I installed mine a couple of weeks ago and it is a completely different car. I love it. Only thing to note is than when reinstalling the assembly, play some flip cup and turn the white cup upside down so that the flat part is on top. Install wasnt too bad. Thanks man!! Ill try to get that core back very soon lol.

You have to purchase an entire shifter.
You'd be just as well off if you found some .015" shim material and shimmed around the outer edge of your stock nylon housing. Replacing the bushings in the base will have a much greater effect on the sloppiness of you shifter.

Anybody know what this is? Is it related to the ball or maybe just the same piece that most of us replaced with the bronze cup?
