I had both an alternator & balancer making noise about 2 years ago... I didn't realize it at the time and had the balancer replaced first before I realized the other was also making noise. It was the loud 'birds chirping' sound which you describe; while somewhat of a pain I was able to replace it from the top without removing the radiator by unbolting and carefully pivoting the PS out of the way.

Yeah at those 'oil change places' you're lucky if they actually top off your oil...

I have been trying to find a pesky rattle on my GTO for some time. Ordered one of these today.

Mine makes it too...

Belt dressing made it worse! Much worse! Then my water pump failed, thought maybe that was the source but nope....still chirping.
My balancer looks a bit wobbly....bout to put in some revshift MMs first.
