Swapping a 5.3L LM7 into my Iroc-Z
Hey Everyone.
Well, i figured id post up a little build thread in here about my iroc.
So, for my 16th birthday, i got a '89 iroc-z (one hell of a lucky kid). My dad and i drove down to the states to find one that was rust free. Found the iroc hiding out in lower NY state. It wasnt in mint shape, but it fit the rust free bill. The paint was blistered, the interior was smelly, but it drove, and it was a camaro, so i was happy.
Well, last winter i prepped the car for paint, cammed the 305 and got it ready so i could have it out when i got my G2. Re-painted it BRR in our shop, swapped in a 4th gen dash and re-did the car.
Drove it all summer, and my hardwork paid off, as this winter the car was selected to be on display at Speedorama from Feb 8-10 2008. The car took runner up in "Altered-restored" division, which i was thrilled about.
Failing to leave well enough alone, soon as i got the car home, i tore the motor out and started prepping a 5.3L to go in.
Heres the list of work im doing with the new motor:
5.3l LM7
4L60e
LS6 intake
Custom Headers (Being fabricated by me )
Custom motor mounts (Also fabbed by me)
F-body Accessory drive
3.73 Richmond geared LS1 rear diff
12" LS1 front brakes w/ brembo rotors and PBR pads
12" LS1 Rear brakes w/ Brembo rotors and Hawks pads
Plastic LS1 fuel tank
Modified '00 LS1 fuel lines to fit into the thirdgen
LS1 Aluminum Driveshaft
LS1 Fbody Coolant res. and Washer Reservoir fit into the thirdgen
F-body oil pan
17" WS6 Speedline wheels
Still working out an LS6 Cam to swap in, but it should be a fun car.
Here are some pictures of everything:
This is what the car looked like in the summer:

What do you think? Im getting there on it, still gotta pull the motor to finish welding mounts, need to finish my harness and stuff, but i think ive made some decent progress. Going to order my header kit monday & a few other parts.

Thanks.
Car had the 5.3L finished up, then i swapped a 6.0L into it, put a 3rd gen dash back in. Decided to do things right and i pulled it of the road perminently to finish everything right.
I put the 6.0L into my '97 trans am

The dash never did get completed. It takes a lot of work to get the dash to fit right (with no gaps) and for all the gauges to work (especially the blower motor). Probably best that Shel dropped the idea and went back to a 3rd gen dash.
