Default who uses wideband o2 setup on their carb motor?

What is the best way to do this? I'm doing a carb'd LQ4 in a fox. I would like a way to at least monitor and preferably datalog the wideband if possible. What are my options and ballpark cost?

TIA

There have been several threads with people talking about their set ups.

I bought an Innovate LM2 some time ago. I don't have it hooked up full time; I just use it for tuning. The unit is a little pricey and the quite a few people have complained about it being flaky. But in the half dozen car mag comparisons I have read it is always the most accurate and fastest responding.

IMO the data logging is an absolute necessity. Kinda hard to stare at a display at WFO. If you get one that records then having RPM is another necessity. The LM2 has 3 other recording channels available. Lots of guys hook up the MAP sensor from their MSD ignition and some even go so far as to hook up a TPS to the carb. With all that info you can really dial in a carb. The unit comes with free software and SD memory card that allows you to make a run then figure out your trouble areas when you get back home.

I put my wide and gauge up on the dash durring tuning, it has a BRIGHT red LCD display, so it is easy to see while driving.
I run a NGK setup, it was $250 for everything. It doesn't datalog but has an output to connect to an external data logger

Think I paid 180$ for my innovate wide band, it has been great, helped me dial in the carb and pick .2 more tenths in the 1/8th. It is above my tach and I just watch it when I am driving down the road in 3rd gear while WOT, even 4th if I have room.

I have an Innovate LM-2. It works very well, I like the data logging capability. Makes it much easier to tune and diagnose problems.

Another cheap alternative WB that includes data logging capability is the Zeitronix ZT-2. It's $270ish without a gauge. It logs to internal memory and can be downloaded later (a laptop isn't required to be attached for recording like some setups). It is also a hardwired setup rather than a removable/temporary setup like the LM2 etc.

I use an MTX-L on my own and customers cars. It saves so much time and guess work it becomes priceless but new they are under $200.

I like the Innovate Motorsports MTX-L.

It is a simple, self-contained unit that comes with the O2 sensor, all cables and the gauge.
- Hard to get more simple.

Inexpensive also, as you can find them online for around $180.

When tuning technology is this inexpensive, it is hard to justify the reasoning behind not using it.

How do you install these on cars with true duals? Does it matter if you are only monitoring one exhaust pipe?

This is what I'm wondering too. I've only used one on my turbo buick before and have it in the single down pipe. I think FAST makes a stand alone that uses 2 sensors and averages, but not sure. I'm hoping someone else will chime in on this.

You don't 'need' two sensors, but it would be more accurate. You will be fine just picking a side and installing the sensor. The variance isn't that significant between sides.

Do you see much difference in the readings from the left and right sides? What do you do differently if you do?

i am assuming the wideband will help you when setting the idle mixture screws? Will it also help with jet sizing? Excuse me for my ignorance!

It will help you dial in any engine, efi or carb by allowing you to monitor changes in jetting/fuel from idle to WOT, tuning without one is a thing of the past, you can tune without but there is no more direct route to get a carbed motor performing as close to efi as possible than with a wide band to help you do so.

will it also cut down on the gas fume smell if you get the a/f ratio in the correct range.

You will really get to understand jet changes even more, and then there is the dine tuning.
