ls newb needin some help
picking up a 5.3 out of an 08 H3 for my old truck. its complete minus the computer. i want to put a carb on it. i would also like to put a nice little cam in it. nothing too radical, but something with a little lope. i have a quick fuel 750 i could use, but was thinking that it might be too big. will i still need the computer for anything if i am running a carbed motor as opposed to the efi? this is my first ls, and would like to do it right. i was thinking a cam and intake would work well on the little motor. any suggestions are greatly appreciated. thanks for any info.

Carb is fine, no the efi is completely eliminated including the ECM that operates the fuel system. Threre is a edelbrock carb cam that seems it would fit the brill if a off shelf grind is what you are looking for, will look up the specs and part number when I get home for you.

If your on a budget, ive also heard of people picking up a used LS6 cam and getting good results. It probably wont have a lope, but it will give you a good, broad power curve and still get good millege. Eric L

thanks for all the info, it really helps out alot. i'll get the casting numbers off the heads on friday. even if it stays around 300hp after i carb it, it will still be plenty enough for my truck. thanks again.

YOU DIDNT SAY,BUT.next your going to have to think of what transmision your going to use,Old school transmisions will bolt up to LS block, but you will need a spacer, something to do with the torque converter spaceing,The GM part is what 2500 hd trucks come with if they have the 4L80.Im thinking maybe you need the flywheel from the same also.Just thought id throw this out there just incase you didnt realize this.
