5.3 LM 7 Carb Build
My son wants to make his little 73 C 10 a little sportier . So last winter we lowered the truck found some 20" tires and wheels and added a 373 posi to the 12 bolt rear . This is what we rolled out of the garage this spring .
This winter we are back in the garage taking out the I6 and 700 R4 and replacing it with a 2000 5.3 long block that we got from a friend that was super clean .After much debate and looking at how much he had saved up we thought it would be best to carbed the motor . So here is what we are doing so far .
Quick Fuel HR-680-VS
Edelbrock Intake #71187 Performer RPM LS1 Duel Plane Manifold
MSD Ignition Controller#6010
As Cast PRC Stage 2.5 5.3L CNC Ported Heads Milled .017

Just curious, why a powerglide over the 700r4? Seems like a big mismatch to me, and IMO, that truck isn't going to be any fun to drive on the street with a powerglide. The first gear ratio is too tall (not to mention the heavy weight of the truck) so it won't have any "get up and go" from a stop, so even with the new motor it will still feel sluggish and under powered. Also, since you'll be losing overdrive it will be equally unpleasant running down the highway since the rpm will be quite high (3k+) just to go 65 mph, which will make it a gas guzzler. Neither of which make for a good street cruiser. I'm not trying to put down your build, it looks like a great father/son project, but IMO you're making a huge mistake with that powerglide.

I have a couple more thoughts for you:
When it comes to carburetor and torque converter matches, I don't recommend vacuum actuated secondary carburetors with high stall torque converters. If you are going to run a 3500 stall, which would be a good choice with your camshaft, I recommend a mechanical secondary carburetor. The unit that I would choose is the Quick Fuel SS Street Carburetor 750 CFM MS.
