carb 5.3 build for strip
i have a 5.3 looking to put 4.8 pistons in, planning to work with my 862s for now, going carb, long tubes in a track car 3200lbs, 4.11 gear, th350, and will be spraying nitrous, anyone out there run big cams with there carb set up, Ive been eyeballing lunati voodoo .651 lift carb cam, but looking at a lot of valve train upgrades, anyone out there with any similar builds? cam recommendations, etc looking for ideas and inspiration, thanks in advance

My thrown together 5.3 stock long block with a edelbrock off shelf .540 lift cam, a 4000 converter on the tight side and 4.30s at 3700 pounds with me in the seat has been 7.7s at 92 in the 1/8 all motor, so a real cam with some head work, lighter car and a proper converter should fly. There are guys running 9s with 5.3s and nitrous, so you should be able to make it run hard as hell.

You also have to be careful with piston to valve clearance. So, while "big cam" is subjective, you will be limited with a stock flat top piston with no valve reliefs.
If your primary focus is to run strong on motor with just like a 150 shot for fun I would use a 228/238 620/595 110+4. If you are all about the nitrous and are one of the crazy types looking to spray 200 or more on your stock bottom end 5.3, I would say something like 234/246 .620"/.610" 112+4. The 2nd cam will be a litttle doggy in the lower RPMs without nitrous, but will help control cylinder pressure and heat with a 200-275 shot.
