Default 3rd gen V6 question

My little brother is looking into purchasing a 3rd gen V6 and I have some questions. We looked at a 92 RS w/ a 3.1 M5 and 190k on it for $2000 what kind of problems occur at this sort of mileage on the 3.1's or the 3rd gen's in general? How well are the tranny's on these and which engines to avoid I know not to purchase a 2.8. Thank you guys and hopefully you can help me. Brandon

I had an 86 2.8, that went 300K. Only replaced the tranny once @ 50K. Radiator went around 200K. Car was still going strong when the kid I gave it to wrecked it.

I can easily find a 305 3rd gen in ok to good condition for $700-$1200. I almost bought one when I thought about how much more I would like an ls1.
