Default air con question

just had my air con recharged but the compressor is not working. if I take the relay out and and jump it with a wire, it kicks in. tried another relay and still won`t work. fuse is ok because the cruise control works.

if the compressor wasn`t working when they recharged the system, does that make a difference? will it need recharging again with the compressor running?

What car & year Rick? Old camaro with Vintage Air, or 2nd/3rd/4th gen with OEM equipment? This info. will help to answer your question. Does it kick in when you don't bypass the relay? In general, charging the AC system will not affect your electronics, but some years/cars have their personalities.
