Default replacing rear differential fluid on 99 camaro SS 6MT?

How do I replace the rear differential fluid on a 99 Camaro SS 6 speed?

Do I need to remove the 10 bolts on the differential cover for it to drain, or is there a drain plug?

Do I need a new cover gasket?

Also how can I tell if I have an Auburn or Torsen differential?

If it's the stock cover there is no drain plug, loosen the bolts and let the fluid drain out. Yes you need a new gasket. I put a little gasket sealer on both sides of the gasket, put the cover back on but don't tighten all the way, let it set up for a half hour or so then tighten down.
On the passenger side of the unit you will see a 3/8 drive bolt that you can just unscrew with a ratchet to fill till it comes out of that hole

Make sure you can loosen the fill plug before you drain the fluid first!!!

a torsen will be very obvious, it will have only worm wheels and worm gears, no clutches. somewhat like this but i didnt get a great picture of the inside

if you have it open, spin one wheel and you will see the wheels and gears turning but the other wheel will not spin.

Thanks for the info guys!

Now it is time to decide which fluid to go with. Will likely go with the Amsoil Long Life 75w90 synthetic.

Use only synthetic in a Torsen (which you more than likely have).
