Default Rearview mirror dimmer lever

So my dimmer lever on my rearview mirror just broke. From looking at it, I think it was attached to a piece of plastic that adjusts the angle of the mirror with thin, flexible plastic. Obviously over time this plastic wears and breaks.

My only question is, has anyone else experienced this? Is this common? Mirror replacements aren't expensive, but I don't wanna be blowing 30-40 bucks every year on a working mirror.

THanks.

I've never broken one myself, but I've rarely used the dimmer feature. The '01-'02 mirror is different than '93-'00, so you'd really need to look at replies from those with '01+ cars. Frankly I'm not sure if I ever used the dimmer at all in my '02.
