Default 93-97 LT1 Camaro Pros and Cons??

Im, getting rid of both of my 4-bangers and finally buying something American what I should have done in the 1st place. Anyways I thought about it and im pretty well decided on a 93-97 LT1 M6 more refined than a 3rd Gen for not much more money, I would like a WS6 LS1 but too exspensive for me as im in HS and buy everything myself. I like T/A's better for all Generations except for the 93-97 I think the T/A's are hideous for these years.

My question is what are the Pros and Cons of an 93-97 LT1. What should I look for when I go look at one? Any major problems with reliablity?

Not as bad as people make them out to be, they have a lot of potential and huge after market for them. Bad parts as I see, for one their old, so you general maintence issues you get from age. They are also harder to work on couple that with being old, makes for not so fun of time when it comes to modding one. How ever they can be made very quick when set up right and can be a lot of fun. The optis arent as bad as people make them out to be, a lot of its hyped up on the internet and bad information.

hey check out 92-96 vettes those things with the LT-1 have a 4 bolt instead of a 2 in the F-body. if you look you can find them for under 10k and most of those have been taken better care of too. just be patient.

If you're decided on the 93-97 LT1 F-body I reccomend a '95-'97, or, if you want a year specifically, a '95.

'93's had a speed density system (no MAF) and a non vented optispark distributor on front. '94's switched to the MAF, but still had the non vented optispark.

'95's received a vented one. Supposedly the cam is different so swapping in a vented optispark requires a cam change, too.

(the problem being they could collect moisture and stop working. vented ones solved this problem)

'96 went to OBD2 and had dual cats. So, if you don't want 2 cats and need to keep it legit, then the '95 is the way to go.

As mentioned previously there are a lot of speed parts for the LT1. They are strong engines. I enjoyed my '95. I had AFR heads on there, full exhaust, 3:73 gears and a few other bolt ons. I had no problem staying with the LS1 cars.

Of course you could buy any of these years and swap parts, but I'm under the impression you're on a limited budget.

I hope this helps.
