I had question this swap also, didn't get any reply... I have a 79' G30 SWB that is converted to 4x4 by Pathfinder when it was new in 79'... would be nice to stick a LQ9/4 with a 4L80E and a transfer case in to replace the tired 400SBC/th350 w/NP205 transfercase.

there shouldn't be any problem with the bolting it up and getting it running. (Smog cert would be required for mine, calif).. but I have question if the engine bay is wide enough ?.. as the different Head/exhaust manifold configuration and the engine being about +1" wider that a typical SBC.
I also have more problem in that my front frame is re-enforced with 1/8" or 3/16" steel plate that take up some room between the frame rails. so..if you find any info.. I would really like to get a follow up on this...

it should fit with all the right parts. not a difficult swap at all. GL

I am not worried about doing a swap, bolting parts together, covering from a SBC to a Gen III/IV engine, fuel system, Wiring, etc.. but more on the phyiscal limitations of the engine bay.

With the Gen III/IV being wider than a SBC (and the Exhaust Manifold that could be different), how much room is between the frame rails!? These items are important if I have to use the OEM equipement to pass the Calif Smog test/Cert.

They put 6.0's in those van's from the factory. That van hast changed since the 70's. Look at a newer G van and you'll probably go DOH!
