Default 5.3 and 4L60E w/ ecm & harness into a '90 S10, 4cyl, 5 speed

Thinking about buying a 5.3 and 4l60E to put in a 1990 S10. Just wanting to know what I would need to do this swap. What wiring would need to be done? Driveshaft? Anything else would be helpful too? Thanks!

Well, there are a few things to consider....

chances are, your s10 came with open diff 4:11's in a 7.5" rear (first gen 4cyl) you should check your GL Codes (GT? or GU?) to be sure. They are not very strong and most guys over at s10forum dot com swap it out for a dana 44, ford 8.8 or newer 2wd (G80) blazer rear. All of which came in LSD rears and better ratios. Mine was a 4.3 4x4 so i had a 3:42 LSD to start with. Be sure to get the 2wd (I am assuming yours is) axle if swapping in another blazer axle because the 4wd ones are wider.

You are going to need the driveshaft from a 4.3 truck and it can bolt right in. Or, swap the yoke but driveshafts are easy to come by.

As far as wiring, the 4cyl doesn't have anything you need except the gauge senders and power.

You are going to need a set of mounts, IIRC, the 2.8L SBC mounts along with the LS adaptor plates will work. Or, you could get a set of hot rod mounts and do it yourself.

I didn't notice a huch difference in weight up front but some recommend going to a heavier spring up front. Others just swap out the shock/coil and go for a qa1 or similar coil over and then order the correct springs for front and rear.

If you go to the site listed above, and go to the LS section, there are many threads that are of interest to you.

My truck was fairly strait forward however, each build will have it's issues.

Just a thought...I used an '88 persuit caprice rad. It went into the cradle w/o too much trimming. I had to loose my A/C however. Not sure what your plans are but...
