So what is everyone doing about their driveshafts? I know that most people take the stock driveshaft and have it shortened, but what about the slip yoke? I have a t56 and it wasn't the same as the one from my super T-10, can you just swap the yokes, or what do you do?

New Vintage Guages
Wanted to show you guys what I am doing with my gauges, I originally bought a cable X box and was going to use my stock gauges.
But in the mix of it all I got a wild hair to swap things up a bit
Just wanted to share my experience and review for the new gauges, I bought a set of 69 series with the custom bracket for the 70 - 78 Camaro
I have a LS swap, 4L60e tranny, and a AWW update harness so it made sense to get new gauges but I wanted something that looks like it could have came in a 1971 Camaro.
I got this from summit when they were running a free shipping special right before Christmas.
http://www.newvintageusa.com/gen2camaro.html
I actually swapped my speedo and tach around. I stared at it for a while and didn't like the tach being on the right. It kept bugging me.
I did however moved the smaller gauges around to reflect the layout of the factory U14 cluster.
One of the first things I did was label the back of each gauge so I didn't get the wiring mixed up.
The smaller gauges use a little push in connectors and the larger gauges use crimp on spade terminals.
I only used the bottom two plugs on each smaller gauge, the top ones are for setting output warnings when the gauges reach a preset threshold limit or access the menu functions via a pushbutton, but I am trying to keep it simple and don't want the excess clutter.
You can also change the lighting to either white or amber led by changing the input wire on the gauge for the lighting. I chose white lighting since it's closer to factory than amber.
The bracket is made of 1/4" thick black acrylic plastic it appears. I haven't exactly test fit it in my dash yet but laid my bezel on top of it and everything seems to line up pretty good, there is room for adjust on each gauge.
One thing I don't like is the distortion of the hole for the gauge when heat was applied to bend it. The bracket has gaps around it, but it still seems to tighten the gauge down ok.
It also comes with a mounted LED indicator panel with turn signals, hi beam, check engine, brake and warning lamps.
This worked out since I have a LS swap and needed a check engine light and a spot for hi-beam and brake warning lights.
I actually have no need for the turn signal lights in that area because I think they look like crap in that location with that layout. I opted to use the factory spots that come through the bezel since it's cut out in the bracket already. I'm just going to get some green leds and put in the bracket and shine through the bezel on each side like factory when I turn on the turn signals.
I also have no need for the two bottom Led's in that panel either, one looks like a fan and the other is some sort of indicator with an exclamation point...oil maybe? I may use that for my alarm led, well see
Another thing I didn't like was the location of that panel, it's up kind of high and when the bezel is in place you can see the allen head screw at the bottom mounting point. I'm going to recess those screws and put a piece of smoked lexan over the whole thing so all you see are the indicators when they light up.
The last thing I want to point out is that when the bezel is on top of the gauges you can see between the bezel and the two big gauges on top and bottom, the bracket actually leaves a 1/4" see gap around around top and bottom that may be an issue when mounted, I don't want to see wiring behind the dash. To remedy this I am going to cut some abs rings for the speedo and tach that extend about an inch around the perimeter...this should close up any gaps and be less noticeable.
Here is a pic of the back with all the wiring done and ready to plug into my acc harness. When I get the car running I'll post pics of the gauges in action and how I like them.
And here are pics from a member on another site that sent them to me when I was shopping for gauges.
Got my turn signal sorted out, went to o'reillies and got some green led's....just had to drill the holes out a bit
got my turn signals wires in , I'm done with the wiring and ready to plug into my dash harness now
Got my trim rings done......this should help with the gaps around the speedo and tach with the bezel in place

Great job on those guages! I plan to get a 70-73 firebird within the next few years and begin the long expensive process of a resto-mod. Im slowly getting ideas of how I want to do it, definatly need to keep this thread alive!

I'll go ahead and post some engine shots, since creating this thread in 2009 my cars have changed. I scrapped the 76 and used most of the parts to build a 71 shell I acquired, including the power train.
2004 5.3 as I bought it. I added all the accessories, instake, and oil pan from a Fbody. If I could do it again I should have just bought a LS1 to begin with.
Cleaned, converted (fbody stuff) and painted motor on restored 1976 Camaro subframe / body
I've since changed to a GTO/express van PCM and DBC, moved the subframe and engine assembly to my 71 body. I also swapped ac compressors since I have since added vintage air
This is where I am at right now, extremely dusty
Latest pic after adding the sanden compressor and drive by cable throttle body set up
Finished my converted harness this morning...I shorten. and lengthened wires as needed and wrapped with split loom

Perfect length and will bolt right in as is with no mods. I picked one up at a local pick n pull for $30
I'm sure the range on the blazer may go as early as 1983 and high as the late 90's.....but I wanted to suggest 86-92 to be safe

i'm just getting into this swap. been planned for about 3 years. 71 T/A tribute with a few custom tweeks. still going back and forth between a L33 5.3 or LQ4/LQ9. i have accumulated all but the engine (coming soon), T56/6 speed, necessary F body engine pieces and a few more. i like vetteworks tank conversion since you can use GM parts found anywhere with the vette fuel filter/regulator. i've made or am making a few custom parts for this build. here is a pic of where i am now, and one of my custom pieces.

Have a question:
Aside from changing the fittings on the 4L60e case......can you re-use the factory transmission lines to a factory 2nd gen Camaro radiator?
Just curious, didn't know if something changed on the case between a 350 or 400 versus a 4L60e that could cause the lines to be to short or not work.
