Clearance for engine movement
I am working on putting an LS2 into an old car. The engine is in and mounted using Mopar offset motor mounts everything lines up good but there is one section where one of the front mounting points on the drivers side comes very close to the steering box mount.
The distance is about 10mm
I have two questions
When the engine is under load what direction will the engine move? If it rotates towards the drivers side I suspect this will hit. If it rotates towards the passenger side it should not be a problem.
What is this mounting bolt used for? Any problems just machining it off of the block?
I have some heavy duty rubber that I could put in there to cushion the contact but I really don't like that Idea. The mounting point in the car is pretty much immovable without major modifications to the chassis. I can move the engine back about 3/4" to clear this but this makes the headers fitment a major hassle because of the cars foot boxes.
Any advice is appreciated.

They are plain rubber mounts
There just plain rubber mounts. I looked for them made out of urethane but could not find a source for them. If anyone knows where to get them in urethane please let me know.
Here is what they look like.
I found these mounts, they are not urethane but should sufficiently limit movement.

With OEM type mount, I would expect the follow in General...
The motor well try to rotate (facing it from the front) Counter-clockwise. The driver side tends to try to ride upward and over to the passenger side while the passenger side will dip a bit. It should not really move too much unless the mounts are really old.
