1978 GMC 3/4 Ton 4WD
Just want to find out if it's possible and how much you think it may cost.
I have a mint/restored 78 with a small lift, a carb'd 350 and a TH400. 4wd.
I am sure it wouldn't be a huge deal to swap in an LS3 but what about a 6L80E? Would it work with the 4WD?

lots of us over at ck5.com for 73-87 chevy trucks doing ls swaps.
as to 6l80 needs to be a 4x4 version and with the adaptor to tcase. then if its still 32 spline you need a t-case with 32 spline input and set it up with little work to bolt up .
only thing is no rear speedo electric option on tcase unless you use a np 241 from 90 or 91 blazer/suburban/crewcab with electric speedo dash .
but we got lots of good write ups over there and even 1 member who's truck was used for r&d at doug thorley headers for making headers for our style trucks with ls motors .
my screen name is same over there . good luck .

I just finished up a 5.3, 4l60e 4x4, drive by wire. I used advanced adapters 6bolt to 4bolt plate, and there custom output shaft and tone ring, and 30 dollar mount plates Not bad at all.
You will have to machine the power sleeve and transfer case mount.
the kit will have a place for your VSS for the transmission to shift and u just use the one on the transfer case to run your gauge.

I used the stock gauges, for oil press i drilled and tapped the plate above the filter, and coolant on the pass head use a 12x1.25 one wire sendor, speed sensor is cable and it doesnt change it screws into the transfer case. And im using the LS based ECU.
