my original stomping grounds. grew up there lol.

anyways if youd like to see the pacer i mentioned earlier i work in limerick at rubright racing. you could probably talk to shawn(co-worker/owner) one evening when he is there to get some ideas. i would say a truck pan or MAYBE f-body pan would work for you. i'd guess a shortened truck pan would be best

In an AMC, you need to slide the engine tight to the firewall and low in the engine bay. The bottom of the f-body oil pan will end up even with the bottom of the stock crossmember (after notching the rear of the crossmember member slightly). The engine must sit low to clear the tranny tunnel and even then the tunnel must be modified to fit a t56 and most other trans. I think any other pan would be too low. This pic shows the engine in it's final location but without any suspension.

I'm going to either use a th400 or a glide. Any pictures of the engine mounted? Particularly the motor mounts.

You can see part of the mount in this pic. I used the original block mounted rubber half of the mount (99 Camaro) and bent a simple u-shaped piece to hold it. This bolts to a short post and plate coming off the k-member (this pic is my homemade k-member).
When I had the original crossmember, I had made a longer reinforced u-shaped piece that went right to the crossmember. Shimmed to get engine level. I may still have those mounts. You can have them just for shipping cost.
On a swap like this, you need to position the engine where you want it (or where it wants to go!) and create a mount.

Im going to pick up a ZR1 cam, PAC 1218 springs, gen4 front cover. What else will I need to get the cam in? I read something about a tensioner. Should I replace some wear parts?

That looks like a fun project. I love AMC's. Not many around anymore.

Are you the same guy that contacted me on the Eagle site? If so did you get my pics? Unfortunately, I don't think mine will be of any help since there is no crossmember or control arms on mine with the solid front axle.

Yeah, I got them. Very unique set up to say the least. I apprceiate it though. All of the engine parts have been ordered. I should be going to pick up the 4.8 on Thursday.

Pictures upon arrival.

I can't wait to see it running. I went to an AMC car show last year and a guy had an absolutely gorgeous Ambassador. He had a built Chevy engine, but kept the hood closed to keep from getting ripped on by the purists.

Update:

Picked up a 02' 4.8 with 120k on it for much cheaper than that 90k motor. The engine is very clean. Already swaped in the zr1 cam, PAC springs and did a gen4 conversion. Ran into some clearence issues using the truck manifolds so I had to do a little trimming to get them to fit, but all looks to be coming around.

I finished making the engine mounts yesterday and surprisingly it looks like the th400 and AMC trans cross member may actually work with out any modification.

More pictures to come today.

Default Awesome!

Cool build you have underway! Love the pic of the smokey burnout next to big $$$ Cobra. I bet you get lots of laughs. And I agree with keeping the original paint. That Gremlin X graphic is perfect! Keep up te good work.

So I had some factory AMC paint left from my 360 build, so I decided to give a big middle finger to the purists.

Things just got ugly...seriously.

Going to pull the timing cover off and have an oil return welded into it. I have a whole slew of weld in bungs but I cant find my -10's. I swear whenever I need something it just vanishes.

Well got some disappointing findings today. Looks like the truck intake isnt going to work. I can live with it being too tall, I would just blast a hole in the hood, but the AMC wiper motor is completely obnoxious and will keep the intake from going back.

Looks like Im going to need a car intake. Anyone have one with rails?

AMC trans crossmember works withing any modifying.

Truck intake.

Time to cut the hood.

Wiper motor in the way.
